Nigeria’s Super Eagles have threatened to boycott training sessions and scheduled travel to Marrakech ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash against Algeria over unpaid match bonuses. According to BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is yet to pay win bonuses owed to players and coaching staff for matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique at the tournament in Morocco.
Mr Okeleji said the team, despite remaining focused, had resolved not to train or travel from Fes to Marrakech on Thursday if the issue was not addressed. “Players and coaching staff of #Nigeria are waiting on #AFCON2025 bonus payments. Win bonuses from four matches – vs Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda & Mozambique – have yet to be received,” he said, adding that “The squad remains focused but will NOT train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if this isn’t resolved.” Reacting, Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe told Peoples Gazette that “Only the man who posted can comment on what he posted,” while the development recalls a similar training boycott by the team during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November 2025 over payment disputes.
