Morocco began their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the tournament opener at a rain-soaked Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. After a goalless first half, the hosts broke the deadlock when Brahim Diaz swept home Noussair Mazraoui’s cross in the 55th minute.
The Atlas Lions had earlier missed a chance to lead when Soufiane Rahimi’s 11th-minute penalty was saved by Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor. Comoros defended stubbornly but Morocco doubled their advantage in the 74th minute as substitute Ayoub El Kaabi produced a spectacular overhead kick to seal the result.
The win extended Morocco’s world-record streak to 19 consecutive victories despite the absence of captain Achraf Hakimi and an early injury to Romain Saiss. Coach Walid Regragui has already warned that “anything other than victory will be a failure” as tougher Group A tests await, starting with Mali on Friday.
