Morocco has seen a rise in prostitution during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with tourists seeking sexual services despite strict laws punishing the practice with up to one-year imprisonment.
Sources told Peoples Gazette that AFCON has created a spike in demand, with prices ranging from 300 to 1,500 Moroccan dirham depending on duration and client preference. Nightclubs serve as key venues where Moroccan women meet clients discreetly, circumventing legal restrictions.
While prostitution is largely restricted in cities like Rabat and Casablanca, it is more tolerated in Tangier and Agadir. One source said, “My friend patronised one Moroccan lady last week…she charged him 300 dirham for the night as she liked him.”
Local women know apartments where relationship documentation is not required, enabling the trade to operate without violating lodging regulations.
The U.S. State Department’s 2025 Trafficking in Persons report highlighted Morocco as a Tier 2 country, noting persistent sex trafficking and exploitation.
Last year, authorities identified 452 potential victims, including 259 suspected sex trafficking victims. Vulnerable Moroccan children and foreign migrants are often targeted, and NGOs report forced sexual exploitation in cities like Tangier, where some victims are held in vacation homes owned by foreigners.
