The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party is proceeding with its nationwide ward congresses, excluding Abia State due to a court injunction. The party leadership cited an impressive turnout and smooth conduct across other states, aiming to reposition for the 2027 elections.
The congress schedule includes ward congresses on Tuesday, local government congresses on Thursday, and state congresses on Saturday. Abia State was exempted following a High Court order halting the proceedings pending a lawsuit against the state leadership.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary warned internal detractors against creating friction, accusing some members of working for external interests. He also cautioned against spreading false information about the congresses, deeming it a criminal offense.
