A veteran of the counter-terrorism operations in the theatre.
Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar has officially taken over as the 15th Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai. He succeeds Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who handed over command at a ceremony in Maiduguri. Prior to this role, Abubakar served as deputy commandant and director of studies at the National Defence College, Abuja.
He has previously led various key operations in the region. In his farewell remarks, Shaibu thanked the troops for their “support and cooperation,” describing his tenure as “a journey filled with extensive operations in terrorists’ enclaves.” He urged continued loyalty to Abubakar, calling him “a veteran of the counter-terrorism operations in the theatre.”
