In a recent interview, the nonagenarian spoke about his philosophy of life and business succession. “A good name is better than riches and that’s my guiding principle. To me, money is simply a means of living, but a good name lasts forever,” he stated, explaining his focus on philanthropy in education and health.
Adebutu emphasized patience to the youth, saying, “The youth must learn to follow the process and be patient. They do not want to crawl before they walk, and that’s impossible.”
He revealed the secret to his successful, enduring business: making his children “partners, not staff,” which ensures continuity. The businessman also reiterated his commitment to giving back, including a recent N5.2bn research centre for the University of Lagos, stating, “God willing, I will continue to do this to the last day of my life.” His final wish is for peace in Nigeria and a successful tenure for President Bola Tinubu.
