AHMEDABAD: A four-month-old baby girl was mauled to death by a pet Rottweiler in a residential society in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, after the dog broke free from its owner’s control, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Hathijan area on Monday night. The baby’s maternal aunt had taken her to the common garden when a woman resident brought her pet Rottweiler downstairs.
Police inspector Hitesh Baria stated, “Suddenly, the dog got aggressive and attacked the infant and her aunt as it slipped from the owner’s grip. Both were rushed to the hospital, but the baby succumbed to her injuries while her aunt remains hospitalized.”
The CCTV footage from the society shows the dog attacking the baby and her aunt before the owner could regain control. The infant’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is ongoing.
