INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan has cautioned Nigerians to manage their expectations for a flawless vote, citing infrastructure limitations while maintaining that the commission is striving for the best possible electoral outcome.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, stated during a Citizens Town Hall meeting in Abuja on Sunday that the commission may not be able to deliver a “100 per cent perfect election for now,” despite ongoing efforts to improve the process. Addressing concerns regarding the electronic transmission of results, Amupitan dismissed the notion that transmission itself is a failure, suggesting instead that the challenge lies in the “adequacy” of Nigeria’s existing network infrastructure rather than the system’s inherent design. While acknowledging the high expectations of the public, the Chairman urged for a realistic outlook on the complexities of the electoral landscape, stating, “INEC will strive as much as possible to give this country the best election; however, we may not be able to achieve a 100 per cent perfect election for now.”
