At least four ministers in President Tinubu’s cabinet are reportedly considering resignation to pursue governorship or legislative ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fresh political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections may trigger a shake-up in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, as at least four ministers are reportedly preparing to resign to pursue political ambitions. Those mentioned include Adebayo Adelabu (Power), Muhammad Pate (Health), Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs) and Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
Adelabu is believed to be preparing to contest the Oyo State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress. His aide, Femi Awogboro, said, “As of now, the President has not told Adelabu to resign as minister… but he is definitely contesting for Oyo governorship seat,” adding that “The minister will resign at the appropriate time.”
In Bauchi State, Pate and Tuggar are reportedly eyeing the governorship race, while Onyejeocha is said to be planning a return to the National Assembly. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission clarified that a viral report claiming it fixed March 26 as the resignation deadline for appointees seeking elective offices is false.
