A Benue State man, Friday Akor, has raised concerns after discovering that his 13-year-old daughter, Blessing, who is currently in the custody of a Lagos State Government orphanage, is reportedly pregnant. Blessing was taken to Lagos in December 2024 to live with her aunt, Faith Amodu, and was enrolled at Dan Esther Nursery and Primary School, located near Faith’s residence in Aboru, Lagos.
The situation escalated in June 2025 when Blessing went missing for four days. Neighbours and her guardian later discovered that she had been taken by a young woman described as a neighbour. The case was reported to Oke-Odo Police Station, but the woman allegedly refused to return the girl. Police later insisted on arresting the woman, prompting her to take Blessing to the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development in Alausa, Ikeja, claiming the girl was being maltreated by her guardian.
The matter became further complicated when Faith and a community leader visited the ministry in search of Blessing, only to be directed to report to Alausa Police Station. Initially, the police considered detaining Faith at the request of the ministry, but she was released after explaining that Blessing was enrolled in school and not being mistreated. The ministry reportedly refused to release Blessing to Faith and the community leader, demanding family photographs to verify her relationship with her guardian.
