At least 12 people, including three children, were confirmed dead after a landslide struck the port of Iparia in Peru’s Ucayali region, submerging a boat carrying about 50 passengers, according to a police report cited by Andina. Officials said around 30 people are still missing, while six others were injured as rescue operations continue during the early days of Peru’s rainy season.
Without giving fresh casualty figures, the country’s national emergency centre (COEN) said on X that the incident happened at dawn due to “erosion” of the Ucayali riverbank, adding that the navy has joined the search efforts.
