₦496m for photocopiers? Akume’s office budget raises eyebrows

A review of Nigeria’s 2026 budget by SaharaReporters has revealed that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), headed by George Akume, plans to spend ₦496 million on the procurement of photocopier machines and office furniture. The allocation is listed under capital expenditure for the office.

According to the budget details, the funds are earmarked for the “purchase of office equipment including supply and installation of three heavy-duty photocopy machines for the cabinet affairs office end room, and supply of office furniture.” The item has drawn attention due to the scale of the allocation for office equipment.

This comes after a similar pattern observed in previous budgets. SaharaReporters’ review of the approved 2025 budget showed that the same office secured ₦100 million for the purchase and supply of grinding machines for empowerment projects in the Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency in Lagos State, as well as ₦200 million for the supply of grinding machines in the Kaduna South Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.
